NYU Researchers United
Roles: Brand Identity, Graphic Design
NYU Researchers United-UAW is a union for research workers at NYU. I created the union’s brand identity, drawing the colors from NYU’s brand guidelines but inverting the hierarchy of colors such that the secondary shades of lighter lavender are now dominant.
The logo is a playful take on NYU’s torch, with the flame replaced by an atom with three orbital rings, one for each of NYU’s three main campuses.
The primary typeface is VTC’s Marsha, a nod to the organizing at The Stonewall Inn just down the street from NYU in Greenwich Village. The secondary typeface is Open Sans, lending a more technical and scientific bent that is in line with the researcher makeup of the union.
I also design all print materials including authorization cards and informational pamphlets, as well as digital content like the union website, Instagram graphics, and slide decks for town halls and trainings.
NYU IS A UNION CAMPUS
The NYU IS A UNION CAMPUS campaign was launched in Fall of 2023 to highlight active unionization efforts at New York University. In designing this poster I wanted to gesture towards the labor history that precedes the organizing at NYU, whose Biology and Chemistry departments are housed within the historic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire building. The posters imagery draws from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union logo & protest signage from the New York shirtwaist strike of 1909.
