NYU IS A UNION CAMPUS
The NYU IS A UNION CAMPUS campaign was launched in Fall of 2023 to highlight active unionization efforts at New York University. In designing this poster I wanted to nod to the labor history that precedes the organizing at NYU, whose Biology and Chemistry departments are housed within the historic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire building. The posters imagery draws from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union logo & protest signage from the New York shirtwaist strike of 1909.

Scientific Figures
made with BioRender:
made with Illustrator (see my Scientific Illustration page for more):
I also teach an annual workshop at NYU called Go Figure: A Scientific Visual Design Workshop, focused on Adobe Illustrator and scientific visual design. It consists of five 2-hour sessions. The first session is a lecture/discussion on key design principles like color accessibility, hierarchies of information, and other fundamentals as they relate to the design of figures, slides, documents, and other science graphics. The remaining four sessions are a deep dive into Adobe Illustrator, from basics all the way up to figure creation for publication and more advanced features.

In Their Words
In Their Words examines a selection of influential texts by the Fadai (literally, “self-sacrificers”), a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla organization in Iran that emerged in the 1960s. Despite decades of militant leftist publishing and revolutionary movement, Iranian communist thought remains removed from much of the wider Marxist canon. This zine seeks to take a step towards remedying this oversight by detailing many of the publications and periodicals related to the Fadai, which belong alongside the better-known texts of Marxists from Latin America, China, and the United States. Every revolution is specific, but all have lessons for future revolutionaries, and Iran’s is both an inspiring and cautionary tale.
